Week 18 – Needed Rain, Meet the Team & Recipe Recap

This week’s rains were much needed and welcome – the dry ground was thirsty and ready for a good soaking and we are thankful to our harvest team that worked a full day of harvesting in the rain to bring us 180 bunches of beets, 120 bunches of arugula, 520 heads of bok choi, 275 bunches of swiss chard, 190 bunches of collards, 600 pounds of tomatoes, 250 bell peppers, and so so much more. In total our harvest list included 16 different items yesterday! The rain boots were heavy with mud and the sticky raincoats aren’t ideal for moving quickly but our team takes up the challenge knowing that the rains are a critical part of the cycle that makes our work possible for the weeks ahead. As we shift towards the fall, the leafy greens will be back in force and we can look forward to broccoli and cauliflower as well as a larger variety of winter squashes (acorn, kubocha) and carrots, leeks, sweet potatoes and so much more.

This week meet Cutter. Cutter is Rootbound Farm’s Fulfillment Manager and this is his first season here at the farm. Cutter is originally from Lousiville and came to Rootbound after many years in the food and hospitality industry. As the Fulfillment Manager, Cutter works with the pack shed team to keep all those tiny details organized to make sure that the harvest, inventory, pack, and delivery all go smoothly and you end up with a box full of fresh items that you love. He holds a lot of moving pieces and color codes, makes lists and checks them twice, counts, weighs, and inventories thousands of pounds of veggies every week. We are so thankful to have Cutter on our team.
